Furia

Rescued in 2015.

Rescued at 14 years old, Luz is a Pure Spanish Horse or PRE (pura raza española), also known as ‘The Andalusian’.

This mare had been abandoned at a livery stable in Gandia, due to her owner being unable to provide for her. The stables kindly kept her and helped her gain some weight, as she was so skinny, but after proving that mentally she was a very complicated horse, and not suitable for work at the stable, she came to us. Previously, she had been very badly treated, hurt and abused, and as a consequence she had totally lost her trust in people. We always say we can see the amount of pain in a horse's eyes, and with Furia her previous life was clearly written there.

She had a very nervous disposition and a lot of other problems that, with the patience and help of staff at APAC, she began to overcome. She slowly became a part of the herd and was accepted by the other resident horses, which was a huge step for her. Slowly this beautiful girl gained her trust back in people, and started to be ridden again. Furia had had a fantastic level of training behind her, maybe overly so, and therefore really enjoyed her life relaxing at the APAC yard and learning how to be a horse again.

Time and care showed Furia that the world can be a good place, and eventually her trust and confidence was regained. This culminated in her being adopted into a fantastic, loving, new home very close by the APAC yard, by a lady with several other horses. We were so, so happy for Furia, she really deserved her happy ever after.
