Kika

Beautiful Kika, was a Pure Spanish Horse or PRE (pura raza española), also known as ‘The Andalusian’. She was head of our herd. Well over 24 years old, she was originally bred at the yard of a very famous bull fighting breeder. Kika was passed from pillar to post until she was found abandoned and starving in the mountains near Jalon. She was voluntarily given to APAC in September 2013, and wasn’t in a good way. Suffering from malnutrition, Kika had been living with a goat and some donkeys, who commandeered all the available food, leaving Kika last in line. She had a lovely temperament but was very shy and nervous, having no trust in people, or confidence in herself. Her tongue was sectioned (a horizontal split running across the tongue, due to the harshness of the bits used in her mouth, and from aggressive riding) and it wasn’t possible to ride Kika with a bit due to this injury.

Kika slowly gained her confidence with the love and patience of Lois and the APAC team, and when we said our goodbyes to this beautiful girl, we hoped her last few years were her happiest, with plenty of food and without any stress.

She was a great leader and peacekeeper and her magnificent presence left a massive hole in our stables, and in our hearts.
