Marietta
Rescued in 2019.
Marietta was found on the streets of Calpe, obviously after running away. Her head had been tied to her foot to try, unsuccessfully, to prevent this. She was in a terrible state, very thin, with her coat all matted and her teeth and eyes in terrible condition. Poor Marietta had clearly lived for quite a long time in this awful condition. She was taken to a local stables and cared for there initially, before then being brought to APAC.
This dear donkey was released from her bindings and treated by our osteopath Toni, to help ease the terrible pain in her back and neck she had after being given the freedom to move again. Jacobo, the farrier, came and shortened her poor overgrown hooves, then the dentist John was called, and sadly 4 teeth had to be taken out as they were completely rotten from Marietta having had such a bad diet. Her eye infection was also slowly treated. She gained weight, and became much happier wandering freely around our yard, being well fed and playing with the other horses.
Her previous owner made lots of calls demanding that she be given back. He sadly could not see what the problem was, regarding the ‘care’ he gave Marietta, and felt she should have been returned. Obviously, we would not let that happen, but on the down side, he probably just acquired another animal to be treated with total ignorance. Lucky for Marietta, as with all the animals at APAC, it won’t be her.
Marietta was adopted by her rescuers and renamed Paquita. A new name for a new life, as she moved into her forever home with new friend Mambo. Enjoy your fabulous new life Paquita!
