Pim
In March 2015, Pim arrived at APAC to be PTS by the vet. He had been living in the most horrific conditions, totally neglected, and was a broken, extremely poorly horse who was on his last legs, and needed to be relieved from his pain.
The vet couldn’t attend until the following day, so we set about making Pim as comfortable as possible. We gave him a wonderful ‘last supper’ which he took full advantage of, eating his heart out, and then we let him loose to wander. Astonishingly, waking up the following day Pim seemed to have gained not only a full belly, but a new lease of life! The vet was subsequently cancelled and Pim began a new era of happiness!
Having managed to last the first 24 hours, Pim went on to become a happy resident, quite a bit fatter (thank goodness!) and really got to try out his paces.
Pim spent 7 years enjoying his thick rug, good food and running around like a young one, thanks to everyone who helped support his care, and Lois who gave him the chance to enjoy his older years. He happily entertained the Pony Club kids, and had a rich and full life. It just shows that environment, stimulation, good food and TLC are amazing cures for even the most sick animals. We were so sad to say goodbye to Pim, but so grateful that it was many years later than we’d thought it would be.
Great work Pim. Rest in peace.
